The Buwagogo Community Project is committed to creating sustainable change in the Manafwa District through instituting infrastructure and aiding community members to create sustainable income.

Founded in 2007 by Robert Maaro, the Buwagogo Community Project is a non-governmental organization focused on aiding the Buwagogo Village and the Manafwa District as a whole through instituting infrastructure and teaching community members how to create sustainable livings. The focus of this project is creating sustainable change so that the next generation of community members will have access to more educational opportunities and are not destined for poverty.

One of the main focuses of the project is to ensure accessibility to education for village children. Lack of education is universally cited as a foundational cause of generational poverty, so by promoting widespread education, BCP hopes to combat future poverty and ensure that the next generation of the Manafwa District is afforded as many opportunities as possible. By aiding families to learn income-generating skills and activities, they will be able to afford to provide their children quality education and a better future.

Women in Uganda are disadvantaged and historically, their role has been to care for the house and family. As a result, the majority do not exceed secondary school in their education. One of the key goals of the Buwagogo Community Project is to ensure that women are afforded the same opportunities as men, especially in their educations. One of the initiatives of BCP is to teach family planning to prevent unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, especially for women who would be hindered in their opportunities by unwanted pregnancy. Many women in Uganda are also pressured into having many children, which not only ceases many opportunity for these young mothers, but also creates less opportunity for the children born as with every additional child, the opportunity that can be afforded to them by their parents is lessened. Family planning and STD prevention is a key goal of the Buwagogo Community Project.

Access to medical care in Buwagogo is limited. Children and the elderly often pass away due to community members' reluctance to bring them to hospitals as they know they cannot afford medical care. For any serious illness, the hospital in Mbale is 16 kilometers away, farther than many community members can afford to go on a regular basis for medical care. When children fall ill, they cannot attend school and without proper care, often die. It is crucial that the community members of Buwagogo have access to adequate medical care.

Our mission is to aid this community to create a brighter future. This manifests in creating income generating activities, teaching family planning, aiding proper access to medical care, and improving access to education for the next generation.
