WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
The Buwagogo Community Project helps women to become self-sufficient.

Women are an integral part of the Buwagogo community, and at the Buwagogo Community Project, we recognize the skills and talent that they have to offer. We work to empower these women to play an active role in community life and become self-sufficient to support themselves and their families.
The Yetanah Buwagogo Women's Group
The Yetanah Buwagogo Women’s Group was founded for this purpose. Yetanah in the Lumasaba language means to “help one another”, which is exactly what this group does. Hosted at the Buwagogo Hills of Hope School, the Yetanah Group hosts workshops for women, especially single mothers, to learn skills in income-generating activities. Previous workshops have taught hairdressing and braiding, tailoring, planting agriculture, handicrafts, and accounting skills for work in shopkeeping. In the past, BCP has also created a financing scheme by which female community members can apply to be given startup capital to open small businesses to create self-sufficiency for them and their children.

As a result of rampant poverty and a lack of access to adequate healthcare, many women in the Buwagogo community have been widowed, leaving them single mothers. Between attempting to feed, clothe, and house these children, finding ways to generate income is a struggle.
