COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The Buwagogo Community Project recognizes the need for community development.

The United Nations defines community development as “a process where community members come together to take collective action and generate solutions to common problems". Common problems in Buwagogo include lack of infrastructure, lack of sustainable income, and lack of resources in case of emergency.

Creating income generating activities for community members is key to ensuring sustainable health, education, and happiness.
One of the goals of BCP is to purchase 1000 kilograms of seedlings to distribute to impoverished community members in order for them to plant crops for sustenance as well as to sell these crops annually to generate income for themselves and their families. The money that they earn from these crop yields will help these families to afford school fees for their children and to ensure that their families are nourished and can afford access to medical care as well as clean drinking water.

One of the most important goals for the Buwagogo community is to complete the construction of the Buwagogo Hills of Hope Junior School.
This school acts as a hub for different organizations, including the Yetanah Buwagogo Women’s group, community building activities, and teaching primary school students. In order to create a productive learning environment for both students and adults, this school needs to complete construction, including installing doors and windows to classrooms to prevent vandalism and distractions, and to complete the construction of floors for the classrooms.

Building an emergency fund is a crucial community development project.
When a community member falls sick, there are few options if they require medical care beyond simple medication.Common communicable diseases in rural Uganda include HIV/Aids, tuberculosis, malaria, respiratory tract infections, and diarrheal diseases. Care is expensive and community members die every day due to lack of accessibility to proper care. BCP hopes to create an emergency fund for community members in need to afford them the proper medical care in emergencies.
